15th World Guernsey Conference 2016 Proceedings
Guernsey NZ would like to thank the Guernsey Society Members and all of the attendees who helped make the 15th World Guernsey Conference 2016 a success.
Sadly, with the passing of our World President, Jim Lichtwark, during the leadup to the 15th World Conference of WGCF, he will not be in attendance.
Until his passing Jim lead the organisation of this conference with enthusiasm and drive to see this a success. Within his team he instilled the same ethusiasm to see the 15th World Conference proceed.
We would like to acknowledge Jim and here displayed is his own personally written profile as he prepared it shortly before his passing.
"I completed four years secondary school in agriculture course before returning to the family farm, working through the system of share milking in partnership with my brother for the family company which doubled its land area. At this point the company was disbanded and I became interested in the Guernsey breed. In 1981 our first crop of first cross calves arrived. From then on the use of Guernsey increased to all semen being Guernsey 1988 to today having 314 head of Guernsey based stock made up of Oak Hill, Goldtop, Anez studs.
I became involved with the New Zealand Guernsey Cattle Breeders 1982 and formed the Waikato branch with others in 1983. I have actively been involved in promoting the breed since, and have attended all world conferences since 1986 Australia. World President 1992-1995.and 2013-2016.
My other interests in supporting my community have been YFC, School Boards and many clubs in all sorts of rolls. In the industry I am involved with Dairy Breeds federation, Animal Evaluation Ltd., A&P shows and others."
